So it seems every year at Gary Con my friends and I find something funny that turns into an inside joke for the rest of the convention. This year the DGS and friends had two. The first being that anyone Cyberpunk Jon (Is that you Sir Jon) says is dead, is likely still kicking (Jan-Michael Vincent). The second being that Kristy McNichol is nuts. I'm definitiely urging Michael to bring that taped Battle of the Network Stars to every future Gary Con. :D

And to Nick, if you read this, having the waitress deliver me the photocopy of McNicol and a knife just as my Boot Hill game started... well played sir. Well played.

What were your funniest moments or inside jokes from the con?

    Howdy,

Mine was during the Sturmgeschutz & Sorcery game. The german halftrack had surrounded itself with smoke. The wind shifted and the smoke cloud drifted and surrounded the legs of the giant. I told Jim Ward, "Hey Jim, now it's a cloud giant!" Jim looked at me with a mixed expression disbelief and pity.

For me it was during Tomb of the Lizard King.

After passing the interview with the Count of Eor to conduct the investigation we figured additional powers were needed.

In order to cunduct a proper investigation we demanded (and got) from the DM a Writ. The document graned us immunity to prosecution and gave us crazy powers.

Then we proceded to abuse each town on the way to the swamp. Conscripting villagers, kicking pesants out of their houses, demanding for recipts at every inn for reimbursment. We ended up with a fair sized garrison of meat shields to travel with us.

Best of all we used it to demote the captain of the guard who was escorting us to sargent for not noticing the hill giants that came up on us during 2nd watch.

    WE HAVE A WRIT!!!!

This has alredy been used on other games when the players have run into each other. Great fun.

I'm still giggling over that and have to refrain from shouting, "We have a writ!" in everyday situations. It was too damn funny. Kind of a late at night after some people drank a little too much type of humor, but valid nonetheless.

I gotta give props to the DM Joe for being such a good sport and letting us run with it.

Then again what could he do, after all we did have a writ

Hey hey HEY hey hey... it was well within any sane person's belief that Jan-Michael Vincent was dead. Go figure he has more lives than Larry Hagman. That was a hysterical evening of fun, though.

Then again, anyone that sat in on the "Hat Game" that the Kaskoid ran should have seen him start singing "I'm So Pretty" while a character (mine, of course) ran ladies undergarments over his face.

Or, pre-GC V, I saw some road action while driving through Chicago in the early morning hours. Female to driving male. Quite amusing.

The Ghost Tower of Inverness game was punctuated by a myriad of moments that tread far beyond the bounds of a PG rating. :D

  8. In my "Return to Ram'shorn Castle" game.

One player said "We can open the first door, there's not going to be something oogy at the very beginning."

They open the door -- "Something white and blobby flies out and hits you in the face and spreads around your head." Several minutes of screaming 'GETITOFFMEGETITOFFME!' and trying to burn it with a torch, etc.

Then I said, "You get a faint whiff of lemon."

    Yep... lemon meringue pie.

It all started with the players asking me " Can you draw it"? Was never the same after that. Game was a blast for all of us. I had a great group of players.

Playing in The Hat Game, casting insect swarm on a bullete, and having Tim Kask tell me his bullete's sweat citronella.

For me, I think the funniest moment was when the second crew of players in my Castle Greyhawk game (they were wandering in my "Halls of the Iron Golems" level, trying to find their way to Heward's Mystical Organ) encountered the Swedish Chef Muppet Iron Golem---a variant iron golem complete with an iron golem piranha fish boomerang and a vorpal cleaver. He surprised the party and battled them with many a "fleur de fleur de fleur" and "bork! bork! bork!", decapitating one of the cleric PCs in the process (who was later regenerated and raised successfully).

Rob Kuntz later mentioned that the Swedish Chef is his favorite Muppet, which I hadn't known at the time! :D

When Isaac and Gopher from the Love Boat had to carry a bloated corpse through the ship's hallways down to a broken meat locker, and ran into a wedding party coming down the stairs ...

Agreed all the way around. Joe was a fantastic DM and we had a great group of players - it was a blast!

My daughter's funniest moment, which she just reminded me of the other day, was looting the bodies of some crooks in Gangbusters. Someone commented, "Does she think this is D&D?" Her response was, "Hey, they probably owed me some money!" (Her character ran a local speakeasy.)

That was hysterical. Spot on character action!
