So what is cooler, bragging rights or $40.00? :?: Got anything cooler than $40.00? quote]

I got it.. donating the $40 to the Gygax memorial fund. That would be cooler than just $40 : ) And if the winner did that, I could see the bounty going higher..

    Hi tstone!

Welcome to the forums. Both of those games are fun. I haven't played either in well over 10 years. Although I did play Metamorphasis Alpha with Jim at Gary Con I- as well as FITS with Mike. Good stuff!

What's cooler? Bragging rights to have knocked Luke out of the game AND getting $40 for your efforts.

I didn't get to revel in his demise last gathering, so I look forward to that happy occasion in 2010.

//You are going down Luke. I've got a lot of "ponies" in the upcoming race. ;)

Real (i.e., manly) chariot racers take care of their own vendettas, not hire strangers to do it for them.

Ha. I'm amongst friends. Luke is going down.

There can only be one winner. Too bad it won't be "Luscious." :p

Seeing as I personally know three of last years drivers I have decided to give them a fair chance at winning this years event at Gary Con II. We will be playing CM at the Mini Hoopla over the next few months to get in as much practice as possible. The chariot I'am driving will have maximum up-grades & be called "The Luscious." If my chariot is knocked out of the race that player will be highly rewarded. Does this seem unfair :?:

Getting my name on that trophy twice would be much cooler than $40 to me, anyway.

Just found last year's sign-up sheet. These are the fortunate few that have a slot held for them if they attend and choose to hazard the sands of the arena once more. (If I spell it wrong it is because your handwriting sucks....)
    Mike Johnston
    Bill Nasebandt
    Rich Franks
    Paul Luri
    Jon Johnson
    Chuck Schulz
    Bryan Pike
    Ken Haylock
    Roz Diedrich
    Brooke Koenig
Flint Dille was a Scratch; his slot was filled by someone named DREB (sic)
    Some guy named Luke

Nowhere on this list is the name Dale. Like some malignant puppeteer, he searches for minions to affect the outcome of a race he is not even manly enough to participate in. Is he lacking colei? Last year he used as an excuse the fact that "someone needed to be at the door". Well, you've plenty of time to remedy that, good sir. The gage is cast.

Sup all I just submitted a warhammer 40k event. In witch I would bring 2 warhammer armies Orks and Imperial Guard. My own 48' by 72 inch gaming table hundreds on minis terrain , books and ect that go with running a game. It would be for 4 players and would take about 2-4 hours to play. Any thoughts this is my first post on these forums and I did attend gary con 1 witch is why I want to run this event.

Welcome to the forums, Doomguy. 'Bout time, told ya about this months ago!! Which day(s) are you hoping to do this?

Yeah, I'm in it to win it, when it comes down to it. If I can stuff Luke or St. Clair into the the wall, I'll do it, but not at the cost of dropping back in the pack.

Pardon me for being so gauche as to mention it, but what is old school about Warhammer 40K?

I thought GaryCon was going for that OS vibe...

I'm all for more minis, but Warhammer?

I was hoping to run it 2 times once on friday and once on sunday both at 1pm. Warhammer 40k is also by no means a new game. The first edition was published back in 1987 in rouge trader. So no its not as os as some of the games at garycon but it's by no means a new game. I have also bought a new copy of space hulk I would be willing to bring if anyone was interested.

    Welcome aboard Doom!

Sounds great, and a lot of fun. Good to see some mix of WH40K get into the fray. ;)

See you at the gathering in March.

Hey Doomguy, don't take this personal, I'm not picking on you here, OK?

Warhammer 40k is a fine game.

However, it is definitely not an old school miniatures game. Being produced in 1987 has nothing to do with it, as age of a design can be an indicator, but it is by no means definitive. CyberPunk was first produced in the late 80s as well, but it clearly is not an old school RPG. Same can be said of all of the TSR "Rainbow Scale" family of games, in my opinion.

Don't get me wrong. I play, own, and enjoy many "new school" roleplaying, miniatures, war, and boardgames. I'm going to GaryCon to play old-school stuff, however, as I imagine a lot of other people are. To me, that means Original D&D, 1e AD&D, 1e Gamma World, Chainmail, Circus Maximus, Wooden Ships and Iron Men, old boardgames like: Titan, EON Cosmic Encounter, and Divine Right, Fight in the Skies/Dawn Patrol, Don't Give Up the Ship!, etc... There is plenty of time for new versions of Risk, Warhammer, Agricola, etc.. outside of GaryCon for me. Your mileage may vary.

So, why do I feel like that old man across the street who kept yelling to stay out of his yard?

I feel your pain but I don't know. They still have to have some mainstream crowd, right? Isn't it an honorary thing?

However, now that I've been made fully aware of the whole event process and it has been made clearer to me that anybody can sign up (by a good samaritan, thanks, Dave! ;) ), there seems to be a lot of growing draw for that kind of "new age crowd" too so I think I won't be running anything "on the grid" just to be on the safe side!

Please just delete my "event submission" and I'll manage my own players for a private "room game" or something. etc., etc., etc.. ;)

Don't worry Francisca I wont take it personally. At Gary con one I saw a good mix of older and newer games, I thought a game of WH40k would fit right into the mix. If that isn't necessarily what where going for in Gary con 2 I as a newer gamer don't have a lot of OS games, or at least older Editions of them. In that case I would just come as a gamer witch I have no issues with as I greatly enjoy playing all the games. :D

Old School, New School. Old games, new games. PEOPLE! PEOPLE! PEOPLE! I thought the idea here was to gather together to honor a MAN who love all games, to create new stories & develop new friendships? I hope I'am not wrong about this........................!
