Hi geekpreacher, the DGS is dedicated to introducing the old "dead" games to a new role-playing public so we always welcome and encourage players new to these out-of-print systems. As kveldulf stated, it is an easy system to pick up so she should have no problem what-so-ever. And Maker is a very good runner.

I think the Dead Game Society should have a small blurb in the event guide. It might encourage newb players to the games and give folk an idea as to your manifesto. As such, where is the Society? Do you have chapters yet?

Thanks for the kudo's, I appreciate the feedback. Perhaps I may challange Baron von Deekman myself, just started flying the kites last month and liked it.

Good idea. I will have to do that! I second Sir Jon's questions as well.

The DGS has only the one chapter in Chicago, currently. Silas, Maker and I formed the society while on the way home from Gen Con two years ago. We decided to form such a group because so often our talk would inevitably find it's way to the topic of the games we had enjoyed in our youth and how so few of the younger generation of players seemed to have the opportunity to experience these games. Admittedly, every generation feels a certain nostolgia for the games they cut their teeth on but we had been encountering, more and more often, a younger generation of gamers curious about those early "Golden Age" RPGs that were no longer in print. Seeing as, combined, we had a good collection of these games in addition to a knowledge of running them, we decided the time had come to form a society dedicated to the revival of games no longer in the general circulation.

We are not a for profit group, we care only about re-introducing the games we love but no longer see in play. Towards this goal, we enjoy showing up at tournaments and running these grand old games, so others who have never had a chance to play them can see what they are like. If you and your friends feel the same way and wish to start your own chapter, let us know and we would be pleased as punch to work with you. Or start your own similar group.

Remember, good games never die, they just await a re-awakening!

I'll get with Silas and Maker to discuss a blurb write-up for the event guide. I'm sure we can whip something up :)

  8. So when can we see a list of games being run at GaryCon? I am thinking of running something myself or I may just show and play. If I know what is in store for me I might be more willing to go for it.

    Thank you.

I have not given myself a deadline  Atleast 30 days prior to Gary Con II and likely before that. i encourage you to submit an event if you like- or be prepared to run a pick-up game if you have some reluctance to commit to a specific time or event. I appreciate all that volunteer to run events and help ensure that we all have a great time.

I haven't seen any response to me running a G1-3 game so I suppose I will leave it to a pickup game when I get there. It sounds like there will be plenty going on anyway.

Yeah, Ive decided to go the pickup game route.

While I'm glad to see an actual schedule and official events, I'm also a big fan of the LGGC and GaryCon 1 method of "show up and find a game". :D

In keeping with the "old-time-con" mood, I'd like to make a suggestion or two or three...

Print an ongoing list of what is being suggested/offered for various games without any game times, for now. Update it every two or three weeks.

Sub-divide the list into "Gary's Virtual Porch"; that will include the majority of the high profile RPG's run by celebrities, which might be expected to draw the biggest interest, and the general field of games.

I can think of two non-RPG's that might also be singled out: FITS and Circvs Maximvs, because Mike may well have several slots in FITS pre-allocated and I have stated that last year's racers have first priority on the 12 slots for chariots because we never finished the race last year (We will be starting afresh; good thing, huh Luke?).

Make all sign-ups for the general field on-site, morning-of. Doing a mass of pre-registering is way too much work and not very "old-time-con".

If you want to pre-reg G'sVP, make it mandatory to show up at least thirty minutes prior to posted game-start to confirm they are there; any slot not confirmed goes to the first name on a waiting-list.

For Circvs, how about a 3:00 PM confirmation, with the same going for unclaimed slots?

Just some ideas, worth everything you paid for them, Luke.

Mr. K, I know I've got two of your racers from last year waiting in the wings. Bryan "the Bold" & "Seekin Toupee" Chuck. Just waiting for a responce from Captain "Bill" Nemo.

Hello! New here but old school gamer! Found my way here through the Fight In The Skies Society.

Lots of stuff I'd like to play, thinking of running a couple myself...who would be interested in Gamma World? West End's Star Wars?

    From the other thread:

As pertains to CIRCVS MAXIMVS at GaryCon II:

I have already stated that anyone that was signed up for last year's aborted race can have a spot in this one.

There are twelve slots and all were full. I'm pretty sure it will be a showcase event on Sat. night, so it seems reasonable to require that any of the drivers from last year should commit by Friday night, or at the very latest, 10 AM on Sat.

If there are more people that want in than there are open slots in the field, how Luke wants to handle it is up to him, whether it be a sign-up sheet like "Standby" or conducting a drawing at an announced time, or simple graft and bribery (as long as I get my cut).

The winner gets their name on the Byron Memorial Chariot Race Trophy and bragging rights for the year. Word has it that the bounty on Luke might get stupid again; I am considering banning that aspect as I think that everyone should get a fair chance at winning. Not that I am opposed to some good old fashioned mayhem; I am furnishing all the drivers with cars with "choppers" a la Messalla in Ben Hur. Hey, if he/she is faster and you get a shot at them, it's up to you. I just felt that the bounty on Luke kind of distorted last year's race.

I've just submitted a Paranoia (2nd edition*) event -- Killer Robots from AFU Sector!

Stay alert! Trust no one! Keep your laser handy!

*The only TRUE edition. All other edition are inferior**. The Computer said so. The Computer is your friend. Don't you trust the Computer?

** The Fifth edition does not exist, contrary to what you may have heard. The Computer says so. You can trust the Computer.

    Ah, Paranoia, must play...

Just submitted mine...Gamma World, a home grown adventure. Playing the end of civilization, Old School...

I do enjoy Gamma World. I may check it out once the game's are listed. Paranoia is another I'll look at.

I have much respect for you my friend, however the bounty on Luke last year was $20- this year I will double it to $40. I wanted his head on a stick then, and I still seek his blood when we gather in 2010.

I will pay the bounty to the person that takes him out of the game-- his untimely demise for some realm currency.

I really hope my ‘Early Bird’ registration can get me in on this game. If so I for one would be unconcerned with the bounty and focus more on winning. Of cores having others concentrate on Luke would help me (and others) do such. ;)

So what is cooler, bragging rights or $40.00? :?: Got anything cooler than $40.00? :)

It could still be ‘up in the air’ even with the bounty.
