For me, the Sunday stay-over option kind of depends on what we do booth-wise, and thus whether I drive or fly to LG. It's a grueling 13 hour drive from ICT to LG, so if I'm hauling books and booth dressings to the con and back, making the drive solo all in one day is pretty exhausting. But, if there was a group staying over to game later in the day on Sunday, I might be inclined to stay over for that and just come home on Monday.

Conversely, if we don't set up a Black Blade booth, I'd be more inclined to fly in & out, and that would make the Sunday stay-over much more appealing.

Staying until Monday sounds like a good plan. Maybe even starting the previous Tuesday. ;)

If I make it, I'll be driving and a stay-over Sunday would almost be certain.

I plan on carting some Barsh youngsters so I will have to be on the road Sunday so then can be back in school on Monday. Probably arrive Friday so they only miss one day.

I was planning on attending the full 4 days, and perhaps any pre-con shenanigans on Wednesday night. Since I live in-state, I was intending to stay at my mother's place in nearby Mukwonago and drive in each morning. Even with the discounted rate, the hotel bill for a single room still comes to $100 a night.

Mukwanago is about 30 minutes if memory serves me correctly. Not too far if you don't have the option of staying on site. I might suggest seeing if there are a couple people willing to share a room with you for the duration of Gary Con. That way you can game into the wee hours, socialize a bit more and take advantage of the free beer during happy hour on Friday and Saturday. Whatever you decide to do- I am glad you can make it to Gary Con!

I have to admit that staying on site is pretty great. Gaming late into the night is wonderful plus they offer a shuttle into town. I hadn't realized that until my second night as I'd not needed it before but it was really nice to have someone else do the driving. The driver was also one of the security guys and was from around the area. He was very nice about telling us some good places to go eat. It made for an all around great experience.

Plus, there's nothing like being asked to live the open gaming room around 4 or 5 AM so they can clean up for the people who would be getting up in a little while.....that was a blast.

When do folks suggest making reservations at the Lodge for GC 2012? Should I pull the trigger now? how fast does it fill?

I recommend making your reservations early. They should NOT charge a 1 day holding fee (new management has new policies thank God). And if you cancel 3 days or more prior there is no penalty. The $79 room rate is definitley good through 2011, but there is discussion of raising the rates starting JAN 2012.

Also, it is helpful for us (Gary Con planners) if you reserve your rooms early. We have to commit to filling a certain amount of rooms in order to "shut down" the Lodge and make it all Gary Con for those 4 days.

Do you think they'd charge if I booked an extra room? I'm thinking of having a "spare room" this year just in case. I noticed last year there were a few people that needed some last minute rooms and I HOPE to bring extras with me this year. Now, if I could just find a way to guarantee which floor I was on that would be epic.

I'll go ahead and book the rooms by the middle of next week.

Chris worked out the no charging the room until the event. So you should be good.

Get your rooms early as we are working on the final tweaks for the new & improved website. Once done, the Early Bird registration kicks off. 2012 is going to be great! It seems each year we just make it better and better. We blame Luke for that. ;)

I just booked a room for me and my wife Thu-Sun night. It sounded like it was one of the only rooms left for those PMs. Anyway, locked & loaded for March!

You're absolutely correct. Real life got the best of me so I didn't get around to trying to book a room until today and I was told that the hotel is booked solid Friday and Saturday night. I'm not sure where I'm going to book a room now but it is really going to make it a bit more difficult to pull the all night gaming as I did last year. :( But I'm sure I will find something so I'm not too worried. Just looks like I may have to rent a car as well this year.

Holy crap! I guess I reserved just in time. I think I'll call them now just to double-check.

Edit: Yep, Friday and Saturday night are now completely sold out (but I have a room).

Dale - you guys might want to post some alternate lodging ideas somewhere if you haven't already done that. Anyone who calls the Lodge now based on the conference being held there will be sorely disappointed.

    yep. I'm hosed. I didn't register in time, and now i don't think I'll be going. :(

I've shared rooms with convention goers in the past, so I' m not opposed to it. The question is would they be opposed to me? They don't kmow me very well...:?

The thought of gaming to the wee hours of the night appeals. As for the beer, I'm not big on booze and rarely drink.

As for what I'm going to run? I'm hoping to try to run Humanspace Empires again, and perhaps an intro game of Empire of the Petal Throne. However, I'm going to have to see if Victor Raymond has anything along those lines planned. I've also been toying around with a sword and planet setting of my own for OD&D, perhaps I can knock out some rules and a scenario before the year is out

Sharing rooms can work out - people just need to be honest about themselves (Are you a messy slob or germaphobe or drunken bastard or Puritan or porno-obsessed or early bird or heavy snorer etc?) and then be polite and courteous on site

I roomed with a stranger at NTRPG Con 2010 and it worked out fine - but we both shared enough honest info up front to have made a good decision - we remain good friends now

Yes, once we will have additional hotel locations listed. The best spot is at the gathering- so book now to be good. It's a 4 day event for 2012.

Thursday is our Day 0, and the resort is offering even cheaper rates on Sunday so we are all staying through Monday. :D
