Great news! I locked in a venue for Gary Con II. It will be at the Lodge on Geneva Ridge in Lake Geneva, WI. We will do 3 full days of gaming goodness starting 19 March at 0900 and ending 21 March at 1700. The Gary Con room rate is $79.00 a night (plus 8 bucks tax of some kind, so $88). The Lodge is a nice resort hotel and will be an excellent setting for Gary Con II. Most importantly though- gaming is open 24 hours in the main hall during the con. So there will be no premature end to any adventure or game.
So look out fellow chariot racers! Lucius Maximus is going to win definitively (again) ;) this year!

Pre-registration will be up on the site soon. I am going to ask for a $20 donation to the Gygax Family Memorial for a 3 day badge. Register early because I am going to allow event registration online for those people that have pre-registered- likely one event per day. This will allow you to lock in that space at the sought after game. I will post more in the coming days as I solidify events and information.

    Cheers!

    Luke

I just checked it out on the map. Thats west of the main drag (Main St) of "downtown" where its called "State Rd" again [it was "State Rd" then "Main Street" then "State Rd" again when I drove through town a few years ago] going towards that college where they had an early GenCon. As well as sandwiched between the Lake Geneva and Lake Como.

    Looks cool.

    Heres a link I found:

Great news, Luke! I need to try and make this event. I have such fond memories of your Dad, even if he was a dirty stinkin' Bears fan. :p Lake Geneva is a wonderful place, and this is so fantastic that you are doing this thing. Luke, have you thought about having any tables for vendors? I've been working on a swords & sorcery game for the past year with a small group of talented individuals, and it should be going to press some time before you hold Gary Con II. Man, I can think of no better place to debut the game, as Gary got me started in this business, and I will forever hold him in the highest regard. But hey, don't sweat it if the answer is a resounding "No way, Jeff!" because I fully understand and appreciate that this is not about commercialism, but gaming. Either way, I have to start ironing out the details for this event, because I really would like to be there.

    Cheers,

    Hi Jeff!

I think that you should debut the game at Gary Con. For some reason my Dad liked you - even though you are a filthy Patriots fan  I got a fair amount of feedback that people wanted to have a small vendor presence at Gary Con. It will be just a few vendors (4 maybe). I think it would be cool if you would run demo's and have the game available for sale. PM me and we can figure it out. It will be cool to have you at Gary Con.

You can make room reservations now. Just make sure to tell them you are with Gary Con so you get the $79.00 rate- very reasonable for the Lodge btw.

Although I never had the chance to meet Gary, I would like to come and share in this - that familiar drive up 12 from Mundelein to Lake Geneva will be nice and I would love to meet and have fun with you guys.

Just don't mind the mist in my eyes when I drive past Townline Rd - Lake Geneva Raceway is gone, but not forgotten. :(

    How many rooms are available?

Yeah, the raceway is gone due to a combo of people that bought brand new homes complained about the noise that was there before they were and some developer with big plans for the area that ran out of cash. I hope both segments choke on their dinners. I was lucky enough to be in the last Tournament of Destruction event at the raceway, that stuff will be sorely missed.

I blocked 40 rooms for Gary Con. If they sell out I will see if we can get additional rooms at the discounted rate.

I look forward to seeing you there!

Luke, is there a registration limit or are we going to be gaming the halls, suites and parking lot (if we can)?

250 is a good size limit for pre-reg. We can take about 300-350 comfortably at the venue.

The number of people there is not my measure of success. I want to make sure that everybody has a great time playing games and that there is a spirit of comraderie at Gary Con. That shared experience is what my Dad liked in gaming (as well as crushing opposing players in non-rpg's- although he did seem to get a malicious joy out of burning Melf's Displacer Cloak to ashes in the Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth). And personally I enjoy being there with long-time friends, acquantances and fellow gamers honoring my father's memory.

If there is a huge demand- I will do my best to accomodate them- so feel free to bring a large contingent from Connecticut ( or RI???)

    Is pre-reg open? I be jones-'in. :D

Seriously, I think the whole concept of GaryCon is both noble, and worth supporting. DO let me know if there is anything I can do to help:
    a) lighten the load
    b) add to the show
    c) help to defray expenses. I do, on occasion, write adventures and such. If a 'unique to GaryCon II' adventure would help, for instance, please holler.

...but count me in as a huge supporter of this in whatsoever fashion I might be useful.

I was just curious. Jason and I do intend to bring a large contingent of Connecticut Yankees (although those hideous Red Sox are in there, too) out to taste the nectar of New Glarus. And game, of course.

I did notice the close proximity to St. Patrick's Day and am planning a vacation, now.

I will say that if GCII comes off anything like GCI, you know we'll all be pleased and remembering it forever. Besides, if you forget, there are always the pics.

    Luke,

I know I'm looking forward to attending GCII. Hopefully, the wife will be able to attend next year and we can make a vacation out of it.

I enjoyed all the old school gaming but I also enjoyed hearing all the stories about the early days of the game. When I started playing in '82 or '83, I never got to play as much as my friends did and I've felt like I've been trying to make up for it ever sense. It's just so great for me to hear all the old stories and look forward to hearing more.

If there is anything I can do to help, just let me know. If I'm able to get the video fixed better, I'll be happy to give you a copy of your dad on the Christianity & Gaming Panel from GenCon '07.

Again, I appreciate all that you're doing for the gamers and doing it in memory of your dad.

This says a lot about Gary Con- and the reason why I go. It's not a "numbers" game to me. It's the quality & character of the people that attend that makes Gary Con special.

In this regards, I'm surprised people still let me come. ;)
