I'd pay $5 just to walk in and gawk, prize or no prize. I'd make that the cover charge. Anyone that brings a hawt chick with them gets in 1/2 price- free if she is a gamer. Since that will encompass, at best, 1% of the attendees, if that, it shouldn't hinder proceeds too much, and may provide a bunch of dirty old gamers some eye candy. Either that or just hire the Bud Light girls to as waitresses!*** *** Note, i am not advocating bringing in Bud Light. That would be desecrating the spirit of gaming. I am just suggesting hawt serving women and lots of beer from Left Hand brewery in Colorado!
I just threw that in for the morally just in the forums. Someone's bound to complain. Maybe my big contribution will be a carload of East Coast girls to serve us geeks. Hmmm...
Haha. I'm sure they'll still be good next year. But, I hate paying for over-priced drinks and chicks that think they are better than me. Oh wait...
Glad you clarified "babes" 'cause I could see a few of these overweight guys *shudder*.....Now I must go find some brain bleach.
On Sunday evening, after Gary Con 2 is all done and over and still a recent memory, I recommend we (we being anybody who wants to participate) conduct an After Action Review (AAR). Somebody can be designated a recorder, and we can capture all our thoughts on what worked and what didn't. That can than be posted to the forum, and anybody who wasn't able to stick around till the end will still be able to add their input. I know this doesn't do squat for Gary Con 2, per se, but it will really help with conventions going forward. And if we plan to have an AAR now, we can post the time, location etc. to try to get the maximum attendance.
Spoken like a true O/C. Gotta get that AAR! I did a questionaire last year and got some good suggestions. Sustain: Close-knit/family feel, Focus on old school game style, cheap food and beer Improves: Need bigger venue, need vendors for basic gaming needs, extended hours needed/more days.
I can't help myself! I made my room reservations last night, and the place sounds really nice. What do they have for a game and dealer area?
I'm from Pennsylvania and have never been to Lake Geneva. Ever since I started gaming back in my school days, Lake Geneva has been a asort of mental North Pole - only with the TSR elves churning out cool gaming stuff instead of Mr. Claus. While I'm out there next year for the con I'd love to take a "drive through TSR history". Not in a drooling fanboy sense, but it would be cool to see where the game grew up. Places I'm thinking of would be the old Gygax house out of whose basement the company operated, the original Dungeon hobby shop, the TSR headquarters building the company moved to, sites of the old Gencons and Winter Fantasy cons, etc. Obviously the places are all something different, owned by other people, etc. - but it'd be interesting to have a gander at them. So - my suggestion for something to provide con-goers would be an itinerary of old TSR related sites for interested folks. Kind of like the celebrity house driving tours in LA, only for gaming fans. Has anyone thought about some games for the kids 10 and under? I know some of the kids are already playing RPG's but what suggestions would you folks have for the tykes? (That is....some of us may be bringing our children.)
I'd suggest 'Adventurer.' Never too young to start them on the right track. Maybe someone could bring 'Uno'. Milton Bradley has 'Operation', as well as many other good games for the "Ten & under" crowd. Them's my thoughts.............
I second Adventurer and Uno - my after-school game club has some diehards who love them. Other good ones that get a lot of play: Quirkle (easy to learn how to play and keep score) Hey, That's My Fish! (another easy-to-learn game) Quarto (great two-player game) Gobblet (another fun two-player game) Chess Checkers Stratego San Juan (needs a teacher to sit in the first game or two) Payday (if the math is there)
Hey- I really like San Juan. It never occurred to me that it wasn't an adult gamer-type game. But you are right. it is very accessible.
