    Thanks! :) No apologies necessary.

Yea, my posts are a bit overdone, perhaps distracting! It is my way…

Nevertheless the seed of an idea is sometimes as important as all the details that go into the whole. ;)

Lets see... a few games that have been sent to the vault, possibly for good (Feudal Effort, Technical Fowl), and we have been playing AH's old Panzer Leader. Also Lifeboat by Gorilla Games. Mostly, I've been working.

My group is playing 1E with a side of Ravenloft. The 1E is a homebrew adventure based off a book the DM read. The party is mostly evil but he's doing a good job coping (it's not easy being a DM on the side of good).

For the RL, we're really playing up the characters as still thinking they're in the Faerun. The DM cringes every time we show our map to the local townsfolk and ask for directions to Suzail.

I'm DM'ing a motley band of adventurers using 1974 D&D (TLB + all of Supplement I, cherry-picking the good bits from Supplements II and III). The campaign has been going strong for 5 months now and has five regular players. Normally I'd be running 1st ed. AD&D, but really embracing original D&D has been a serious blast. Highly recommended!

Right now I am playing a 1st-level Dwarf Fighter in 4e. Second session of the game is tomorrow (08.20.09).

Before that I was playing a 4th-level Dwarf Fighter in a 2e Greyhawk game.

And before that I was DMing a 1e megadungeon delve - Castle Vulgoth. The party was killed on the first level after about six sessions.

For what its worth, there is some good fan support out there for both Gamma World and Star Frontiers.

For Gamma World, I'm a member of an highyl recommend the Yahoo Group:

I'm the owner of a Star Frontiers listserv (the "Star Frontiers Underground") on Yahoo:

I ran out of time for table top games, though I still get together with a few friends (including Silas) to run different out of print games. Currently we are about to finish a Top Secret game Silas is running. It involves a train, a girl and one suave British spy (that would be me  ). Oh and some other minor characters (the rest of the party  ).

other then that, I am running over on RPol, a Amber Diceless Roleplay game, 1st ed. Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth, 1st ed. Descent Into The Depths Of The Earth and the Desert of Desolation series for 1st ed. In addition I am playin in a PbP 1st ed. Temple of Elemental Evil game.

Sad to say- I am not in any regular game right now. :( I hope to rectify that in 2 weeks. I'll either run something or slip into a D&D game with a new group I was recently met up with.

I will be returning to being 'Shield Monkey' in a week. I relish the new twists I have planned for my group.

In addition to the ToEE campaign I play in (we finally established ourselves with a moderatley successful and stable party that has made 3-4th level), I play in another campaign that is set in the Forgotton Realms. Not really my first choice but it's fun nonetheless. We are playing a modified N1 Treasure Hunt.

As for my ToEE group, we are in the first level of the dungeons beneath the Temple. We just ended our 3rd foray into the dungeons. We have had extensive troubles dealing with the Ghouls and we just had problems with the Harpies... Just barely excaping with our lives after slaying 1 of them... If it were not for having 2 clerics in the party we would have long ago been overrun by the vast quantities of Ghouls and the few Ghasts... Our MU spells are not that great and in any event, they are only 2nd and 3rd level... To cap it all off the DM is a thoroughly wicked lunatic. But we love him anyway.

Well, the guys I'm playing with have decided to change systems once again. Looks like they'll be laying 4E aside and moving on to Pathfinder.

I tried to push playing a little BECMI for a while and ran one session. Some people seemed to enjoy it but the more vocal folks are wanting to play PF so I guess that's what we'll be doing now. I'm just looking forward to playing regularly.

Well, I returned to the DM spot after a brief hiatus, in which I am simultaneously finishing off a few plot threads for some of the older characters and picking up a new adventure for a bunch of new, zero level characters that may dovetail into previous threads.

    Yes, zero level.

    I am in for it.

Sorry to hear that. I just can't get used to a "path of adventure". It sounds like one big railroad trip. But I suppose it's better than WoW (er, I mean 4th edition, aka YAETSNBN). I briefly played 3.5 a couple of years ago, but not knowing any better I really just used the mechanics of the system and played it like 1st/2nd edition, which isn't so hard to do. I abandoned it disgust when one of my players, at 1st level Ranger, was able to knock 2 or3 arrows on his bow simultaneously with minimal penalty. In fact, I don't even game with those munchkins anymore. I guess that is the luxury of living in an area with lots of Dragonsfooters...

Yeah, well my other problem has been time constraints. These guys are playing on Sunday afternoons because it's convenient for them but, for me, it's been a bit of a hassle lately. Visiting parishioners that are ill is generally done best on Sunday afternoons and church board meetings work best in the evening. So, trying to get into my car and drive to Memphis (40 minutes away) to game doesn't work out too well for me.

I'm also killing myself with classes right now. I'm taking 13 graduate hours. That along with a new baby and three churches is becoming a bit of a strain. So, I hope to ease things up fairly soon but not sure how that's going to work.

I agree with you. 3.5 was mostly garbage. There was only one or two good modules produced, like that masterwork from TLG- The Lost City of Gaxmoor ;)

I completely understand. And you gotta game when you can. Sounds like you have a lot on your plate! I hope you can juggle everything and and keep the gaming going. It's hard to find a good, solid 1st edition group these days.

I never liked the format of the modules, especially the hardcover ones produced by WotC (not because I hate them, but because the format actually sucks). I'll have to check out Gaxmoor. I think I saw a copy of it at my FLGS.

Many people didn't seem to see a difference between 3.0 and 3.5 but, imo, there was a big difference. When 3.0 came out, I felt there was a bit more freedom in the game for the DM to do things on the fly but 3.5 felt like they were trying to find a rule to cover everything. It just didn't seem as fun because people were always looking up this or that rule.

I will say that some of the best modules that came out for Third Edition were put out by KenzerCo. I thought their Kalamar setting and the modules they put out for it worked really well. I used their setting and ran, for my area, a long term consistent campaign that last for 6 months with us playing ever week for 6 to 7 hours a session. It was a blast and one of the best campaigns I've ever run.

Well, I found an FLGS in a town in the other direction. (We lived in that town about 7 years until recently.) I'm going to go by and check it out as they had a great deal of 2nd edition stuff in stock. Maybe I can find some people who are wanting to game at a time that will fit into my schedule. Of course, if I could talk the wife & daughter into playing I may end up just running some Basic/Expert D&D and some of the early modules. I've also got a friend or two who might play as well if I do something like that and then I can just play at the house. Who knows?

My gaming group is between systems right now. We switched to D&D 4E nearly a year after it came out and it lasted about 6 sessions before the relocation of some of my players brought things to a grinding halt. One of my players didn't care to start a new game in 4E ever again, 2 others were ambivalent about which system we played, and one player loved 4E (RPGA'er, natch). The DM (me), felt it was really easy to run and prep for, but otherwise, I'm pretty meh about it.

So, I've found a few new players for my group and while we see if they mesh with the existing players, we're trying a variety of systems with one-shot games. I ran Aces & Eights last week (they had fun, but felt the ruleset was more complex than they wanted to deal with for a long-term campaign) and will try Shadowrun 4E this weekend. If Shadowrun doesn't appeal to them, I'm thinking of Savage Worlds or Star Frontiers next.
