Well, I see from the above entries that you have been introduced to are, ahh shall I say... most prolific posters on the Gary Con Forums. They are in a competition to see who can level past Warlock first and so they will comment on almost anything. :p

    Hello Everyone,

I'm new to this forum. I normally frequent (translation: lurk) at the Piazza and Dragonfoot boards.

Though I started off as an AD&D player back in 1980, I've pretty much been mostly a Classic (BECMI & RC) DM since then. I am running a number of campaigns, mostly with family, but only two are very active (i.e. play 1-2 per month).

The first campaign is set in Threshold (Kingdom of Karameikos) in 1012 AC. The Party consists of:

3rd Level Cleric (6 yo Nephew)
3rd Level Dwarf (7 yo Nephew)
3rd Level Bard (Brother) - from the Labyrinth Lord Companion Expansion
    3rd Level Magic-User (11 yo Daughter)
4th Level Thief (13 yo Son)

After several years of only playing/GMing Battletch (my favorite game after D&D) at the annual TotalCon convention, I'm actually going to play in a couple of games. I honestly haven't played D&D in a while simply because I wasn't interested in 2nd Ed, 3rd Ed, 3.5, or 4th ed. However, Frank Menzer is going to running some Basid and 1st Ed games at next month's TotalCon, so I had to sign up for his events!

    2nd Level Fighter (Best Friend)
    1st Level Mystic (Wife)

I've run them through several adventures, including parts of the ongoing mega-dungeon Castle Whiterock. My campaigns are terribly linear, so they could go in a number of directions when we play this Saturday. However, I am pretty sure that they are about to embark on a quest to recover the Shield of Halav in Hail the Heroes.

My other active campain is located around the town of Torlynn in Thunder Rift. It started as a one-one campaign with my son, but my daughter joins in every once in a while. The party currently consists of:

5th Level Cleric & 4th Level Elf (Son)
3rd Level Dwarf & 3rd Level Halfling (Daughter)
    4th Level Magic-User & 3rd Level Fighter (NPC)

I also have a number of other campaigns with my son and daughter that we play only once or twice a year including:
    * another Karameikos Campaign (current adventure: The Keep on the Borderlands)
    * Alfheim Campaign (current adventure: The Sunless Citadel)
    * another Thunder Rift Campaign (Kleine) (current adventure: The Mysterious Tower)
    * and a final Thunder Rift Campaign (Melinir) (current adventure: Treasure of the Hideous One

My son has recently expressing interest in DMing as well. He currently running the adventure The Chapel of Silence for me and his sister:

1st Level Cleric & 1st Level Dwarf (Me)
    1st Level Cleric (Daughter)
    1st Level Mystic (Daughter)

Sounds like a good group of gamers you have there. I love that you are having them play the older stuff! My daughter (nearly 5) is starting to express interest by looking through the monster manuals with me. She can identify Bugbears now (although she keeps calling them Bearbugs, lol).

How is Totalcon, anyway? I tried to make it last year but couldn't arrange it so that I would be in the area. Does that mean you are from the greater Boston or Providence area? There are a bunch of Dragonsfoot folks up that way...

HEY DRU, if you do decide to run an RPG game how's 'bout giving me a 'nod.' Haven't played in SOOOOO LONG I think I've forgotten how to roll-up a character! ;)

Absolutely! But I positively do not run any games until I have a few nips of the ole' good stuff. It helps for when you all laugh at my "unique" dm'ing skills.

Sadly, I'm currently playing ZERO table-top RPGs, due to impending nuptials and moving houses and stuff like that. I have not, in fact, played any table-top RPGs since early October (or was it late September?)

It's one of the reasons I'm SO looking forward to the Con; it'll be the first time I've played RPGs since Q3 2009.

I've been playing the dickens out of games like Fallout 3, GTA: San Andreas, though.

I hear you brother! I am busy training for deployment, selling my house and moving- as well as getting this Gary Con thing put together. Thank God for Chris and Dale helping me out! I haven't played an RPG in a few months. I am looking forward to Gary Con- though I may be too busy to play very many games.

I am not currently playing anything, but I am re-reading the 2nd Edition AD&D books.

I am getting all warm and fuzzy from my gaming past... must ... game ... soon.

I haven't played anything in a little over a year. I've been working on school and the like so I can (hopefully) have a lot of free time for gaming for the rest of my life in a few more years.

Got to run some guys through the 3.5 version of White Plume Mountain last week. Nearly had a TPK during the first encounter in the mountain. It was beautiful. This was the first time I've played or ran an RPG since a month after GenCon.

Been playing 4th Edition D&D since it debuted at GenCon. Have a 10th level Rogue. I've been playing every other week with my 11 year old daughter at the FLGS.

Played 3.5 Living Greyhawk before that. Had a 10th Level Paladin at the end of the campaign.

Before that, I hadn't role-played since high school.

We have been playing a new rpg system out here that some guy wrote. Its pretty rules light, and it was only created because of this guy's dissatisfaction with most sci-fi rpgs. Its called Lance, and I'll prolly bring a few freebie copies to the con... might even play a bit, if there's time.

Why is it different? Because the system reflects the biggest difference there is between fantasy and sci-fi role playing. In space there are a million ways to die...

The entire ruleset will be between 36 and 48 pages... so I'm not kidding about rules light. The source material (items, adventures, etc.) is already CONSIDERABLY more extensive.

But players do not need all of that pesky source material :D.
