Just learned Stone Age, which is a very nice resource management/acquision game.

Like Settlers of Cataan? Or more like civilization?

Well, I'm only vaguely familiar with Civilization (the board game).

But I think it would be best described as pretty similar to Settlers, with somewhat more detail/complexity and a tiny bit of development, but nothing remotely along the lines Civilization.

In Stone Age, your tribe/situation/abilities are not quite as static as in Settlers. You can gradually improve your tribe's size, skill with tools, and farming ability, for example. However, these are simple mechanics and that's about all I can think of of that nature.
There's no worldmap to permanently settle or land involved (well, only in an abstract sense involving cards).
You try and collect tangible resources (food, wood, clay, stone, gold?) to accomplish things.
The way you get points and win, again, is somewhat more involved than Settlers.

    It plays in 1-2 hours.

Overall, I'm mildly fond of Settlers and more enthusiastic about Stone Age.

OK. I will see if one of Ernie's regular gamers has a copy. I am headed over there in 1 hour. It will be good to do some gaming it has been about 2 months since I gamed anything other than xbox or pc.

    Hi All,

I played Stone Age during Ernie's gameday Monday. It is really fun- and I am not saying that just because I won. Although that helped. This is a great game that I highly recommend to folks that enjoy Settlers and San Juan. I plan on buying it even though my game group is super flaky and I rarely get to play.

A great board game I've recently been playing is Red Dragon Inn. It's set up like a drinking game and the concept is you're sitting around an Inn drinking with your fellow adventurers.

The last person left standing is the one who wins.

There are cards that cause other players to drink more plus there is also gambling and other general tomfoolery. I highly recommend it as a good game with plenty of strategy. There are four different characters and each one has its own strengths and weaknesses.

What an awesome idea! Sounds like an after-hours game, though.

Yeah, that gane could be dangerous if you want to play a game after that one. Sounds like an event after 10PM or up in the hospitality suite if we do it at a hotel. No driving afterwards though! I had my fill of trips to the county jail at Gary Con I ;)

Seeing as this topic disappeared to 'page 2' thought I'd revive it. We've been playing the 'hell' outta "Warrior Knights" by Fantasy Flight Games. Everyone here really enjoys it, & ya gotta have the "Crown & Glory" expansion for it! We'll be playing it at this sundays' mini-hoopla. Only chance for a six player game. If you get a chance check this game out!

Bringing it back again; Last nite our group played "Ad Astra" by Fantasy Flight Games. If you like Settelers of Catan you should check this one out. Great little game of explore, collect resources, build new stuff, collect alien artifacts, repeat. After playing two games all players gave it a thumbs-up. Thinking about running this as an event at Garycon 2. Plays within a couple hours, best with four-five players.

I'd like to read more about that, from your firsthand experience, if you please.
