    Right here.........
Re: Gary Con II has a Venue!
Great news! I locked in a venue for Gary Con II. It will be at the Lodge on Geneva Ridge in Lake Geneva, WI. We will do 3 full days of gaming goodness starting 19 March at 0900 and ending 21 March at 1700. The Gary Con room rate is $79.00 a night (plus 8 bucks tax of some kind, so $88). The Lodge is a nice resort hotel and will be an excellent setting for Gary Con II. Most importantly though- gaming is open 24 hours in the main hall during the con. So there will be no premature end to any adventure or game.
So look out fellow chariot racers! Lucius Maximus is going to win definitively (again) this year!

Pre-registration will be up on the site soon. I am going to ask for a $20 donation to the Gygax Family Memorial for a 3 day badge. Register early because I am going to allow event registration online for those people that have pre-registered- likely one event per day. This will allow you to lock in that space at the sought after game. I will post more in the coming days as I solidify events and information.

    Cheers!

    Luke

Make sure to ask for the Garycon 2 rate.

Groovy. Did the prereg $20 already and just reserved for three nights, arriving Thursday. btw, aside from the $79 + tax ($88) there's also a $9 a night resort feee they described after securing my reservation that they say will be added to the bill when checking out. Bit of an elevator ride but still cheaper at $100 a night than Milwaukee or Indy. :) With the two Queen beds and the fold out couch, three should be comfortable enough in the room. Thanks!

(If you wish to split these last four posts off into their own thread, feel free to do so. :) )

    Fellows,

I've given it a lot of thought, and I've come to the conclusion that I don't want to run any Castle Zagyg at Gary Con II. My reasons are personal. I'm going to stick with running events related to my forthcoming RPG, Astonishing Swordsmen & Sorcerers of Hyperborea. It is a swords & sorcery RPG whose rules and structure are derivative of the original rules as conceived by Gygax & Arneson, but its mood is more inspired by the works of CAS, HPL, and REH. I'm looking forward to introducing it to fellow traditional gamers. Essentially, I want to have fun at Gary Con II.

    Cheers,
    Jeff T.

I don't know what times I want to do this, but I would be willing to run Paranoia (2nd edition) at the con once or twice. I'm planning on bringing some board/card games, as well.

I'm totally getting in on that Star Frontiers action, though. Aces & Eights and Hackmaster, too, if someone's runnin' it.

Oh, man....I always wanted to play Top Secret and Indiana Jones. Hooo, boy, so many games I'd like to play. Those ads in Dungeon magazine from back in the day used to drive me crazy 'cause I didn't have the money to buy the games and my friends never seemed that interested in those different ones.

Thank you guys for having this Con so I can actually live a part of my childhood that I didn't get to experience. But then I've never really grown up, have I?

I am interested in running an AD&D game (G1-3 Against the Giants). I would use the Pre-gens in the back. I am thinking G1 on day 1, G2 on day 2, and G3 on day 3... I've never run a game at a Con before but would love to give it a shot! Who do I need to convince that I am worthy?

The Dead Games Society is tentatively planning to run a Boot Hill Tournament, using 2nd edition rules. It will consist of three rounds, qualifying players from the first two sessions will combine to play the third session. So whether you be good, bad or ugly, if you think you got true grit and are looking to make a fistful of dollars, then grab that Peacemaker and get ready to ride the iron horse into the old west!

How long would each round be?

Most likely two hours per round. Maybe three.

    That would be me

Seriously- once we get the Official Event Submission form posted- fill out the information and I will review it. If there are several guys running the same game/module then I will have to pare it down. Then I have to make sure that there is sufficient table space available at that time slot to resource the event. If those criteria are met- and I am in a good mood :p - then the event makes it inot the event catalogue and you are on the hook to run it

Fair enough! If too many people are running the G-series, I am open to some other mods like T1 or WG4 or any of the S-series... I'll be OTL for the Event Submission form! Thanks!

    Fellows,

I'm trying to iron out what my schedule for tunning events at Gary Con will be. I noticed that it is possible for us to run night games, as Luke mentioned in another thread. So, with that in mind, I'm thinking of running games on:

Friday Night: 6:00 PM -- Midnight.
Saturday Night: 6:00 PM -- Midnight.

I intend to run my RPG called Astonishing Swordsmen & Sorcerers of Hyperborea. Each session can include up to 10 players.

At 6 PM we can sit down and talk about a few of the rules basics (if you've ever played a 0E, 1E, or BASIC RPG as conceived by the likes of Gygax, Arneson, Holmes, Moldvay, Marsh, Cook, and Mentzer, you will be a quick learner!). After some leisurely chatting, a drink or two, and whatever, we should be ready to start the adventure by somewhere between 6:30 and 7:00.

I'm at my best when I run a game at night after a beer or two and a nice cigar. That's how old Ghul rolls. ;)

    Cheers!

Err.. Luke does this all sound okay?

I should probably say something seeing as I would like to contribute to Gary Con.

I would be willing to run a Learn To Hack session for Hackmaster Basic. IN addition to that, I found my old TopSecret/SI box set and would like to run a session of that as well.

Edit: I just realized I have slight conflict between GCII and my second job as a college instructor. The first day of the March term at where I teach falls right in the middle of GaryCon II! Worst case scenario I will have to drive to work early Saturday and get back mid-Saturday Afternoon.

That being said, I would still like to run the games listed above. Maybe one Friday morning and the other Sunday morning. 5 players max for each session. I'll spend the rest of the Con playing, chatting, and meeting with all of you.

This topic has been quiet for a bit.

Question for Luke and the organizaers - any word on when the event submission stuff will be up on the site?

    Related questions:
    - How will event submissions be sent in? Type up a form on the website and submit? Or post to this board and then get confirmation back from the moderators?
    - Will be there be an event grid available on the GC site or on the forums as events get submitted? If there is a web form to submit events and a grid, will submitted events automatically be posted to the requested time like a shared calendar app (and potentially creating a "gold rush" as folks try to snag more popular time slots? Or will all events be assembled and reviewed by the con organizers and then plugged into a schedule so they can be deconflicted?

    Just curious..

On a side note, it looks like I'll be putting together a pair of Star Frontiers adventures to run for friends in November, so I can run one or two SF games at GaryCon - and even have already playtested them : )

    Hi Andy,

Chris should have the Official Event Registration form up on the site in a week. You will fill in the event info and the time slot that you want to run the event. We will be compiling the information and look at the logistics. If there are too many events in one area, we will ask to move it to another time slot. After we get the event catalogue assembled, we can start signing people up for events!

I appreciate everyone's patience while we get this organized and I especially want to thank all of the Judges out there who are volunteering to run events! I wish I could play half of the games that caught my eye on the unofficial thread- but there is not enough time even if I could play 24 hours straight for all 3 days.

You know, its funny you mention that.. now that I've got actual income, over the last few years as I've gotten back into older games I've started tracking down a lot of the games that as a young'in I could just stair at on the shelf of my local hobby shop. I think of it as something like RPG archaeology ; )

Of course, the irony is that now that I have the money and means to pick up all this cool stuff I have less time than I did back then to actually *play* said cool stuff.

The universe does indeed have a sense of humor..
